Very well put, but now you can look back and see that the smart one is the one posting these and it's their loss for questioning you intel. Actually thanks to all of you that share this same sickness & addiction. Thanks for taking the time to look and thanks for the sidebar confirmation that maybe what I've been doing for the last 30 years HAS BEEN maybe a good thing after all. Because all things along these "collectible lines" have probably been some of the smartest moves I've made in my entire life. Today, looking back, I just wished I could have been more "outta hand" in my constant purchases. And that's really all I needed to hear from myself. Aw, it may not be all that wise, but it makes me happy and it makes me feel "not poor". And the whole time while I didn't really pay that much attention to anyone when it came to these comments, I still had a little voice continuously ask me, Is this additional expenditure wise? And I always answered the same way. Of course I would always ignore that advice along with keeping about 90% of exactly what I bought a closely guarded secret. Mostly it was my 2nd wife that was constantly dissuading me from more and more coin and precious metal purchases in general.
You know, looking back, I've had two wives and several friends/aquatints tell me in so many words that I was not very smart to keep buying and trading for all of the things I now have. Sometimes I wonder what causes me to procure the things I do. Needless to say, it is seldom worn and spends all of its time locked away in a dark bank vault. It weighs in excess of 100 grams between the case and the band or a little over 3-ounces of solid 14k gold. All I know is that this watch is a real attention getter (which I don't need or want) and I've never seen links this large on a wrist watch. Carlos must have been owed some money and thus the way he may have ended up with this piece. I am told this is a watch from the early 1950's.
I had these last two posts (this watch & the other art deco example), posted together, but felt them old enough and worthy enough to post separately. Kinda scary thinking of what this watch may have witnessed and just how much money it saw change hands. He was wearing this watch when arrested or so I was told. federal agents for cocaine trafficking and spirited back to the states where he was tried in the city where I live, in Federal court and subsequently sentenced to "life without parole". Carlos Lehder AKA "Crazy Charlie" was arrested in Colombia by U.S. Has quite a history from the last owner before me. This was a watch I bought at a seized govt.
